A Championship Diary 2000/2001 Part 4 - Bombing Down The Home Straight.

BHB 5 - Patana 1
( Sunday 1st April,2001,Tobacco Monopoly,14.00 k.o. )
BHB after an enforced absence from the league re weather and hiding opposition were chafing at the bit for a stint of park action. The depleted Patana were always going to struggle with the heat of a 2pm fixture and must be questioning player loyalties. Will those absentees return for the cup final??The game was played in good spirit with a fair and impartial referee who controlled the game without having to reach for a card. The Tobacco pitch looking its' best ever contributed to the BHB short game and the game settled into a series of forays at the Patana net, with the occasional ball over the top for Mike Williams to chase.
A thru-ball from the yellow midfield beats the offside trap and the linesman's flag, not always the same thing in this fixture, the lightning fast Chatree latches onto it and bears down on goal.Nick Smart and Nat start a game of rummy in the middle of the park while the rest of us pop off for ice-creams.Transfixing everyone Chatree creates an angle and slams the ball past the keeper. But it is not long before Patana are on level terms as Forrest under pressure from Mike turns into his own net via Oat's grip. The lead is restored through the most bizarre of circumstances.Thru-ball,Chatree,angle for shot, shoots past the keeper. Then 5 minutes later thru-ball,Chatree,angle for shot, shoots past the keeper.Half time 3-1
2nd half Patana make more of their possession, but Oat in goal has hardly a save to make.Another thru-ball sets Nat on his way,he shoots he scores.A series of corners from Patana produce no end product, the favour is soon returned by the Brazilians.Patana tired end up defending deeper and deeper, and good play on the left from NSmart and Breenie results in a cross, the four foot tall Chatree elevates above the static Patana defence to head home his fourth.
Scorers: Chatree x4,Nat
Man of the Match: Chatree, practise makes perfect.

BHB 1 - Soho 1
( Saturday 7th April,2001,Tobacco,14.00 k.o. )
Trying to put a bit of breathing space between ourselves and those damned consistant Germans, this was a big game for the Brazilians. It was a shame then that Yamine didn't show up to keep his young Soho bucks (yes that is a typo)under manners. One of the least enjoyable Casuals games I've ever played in,the less said the better probably.Suffice to say that the Yellow massive kept their cool under a barrage of abuse, threats and punches, and we managed to keep our unbeaten record.Somehow Soho only received one red card.
Man of the Match : Nat
Scorers : BHB- Nat ; Soho- who gives a shit?

Oat,the man-mountain in goal.

Warbler 2 - BHB 3
( Saturday 12th May,NIST,16.00 k.o. )
There was an unmistakeably buoyant mood about the Warbler team, unusual in a team that generally approaches this fixture with the air of a whipped public schoolboy. With the Mighty Robbo at the reigns, the sublime Jacko in midfield and Keithy sidelined, they must have felt they had all they needed to spoil the BHB party. The boys from the considerably more affluent end of Sukhumvit got the game underway and swaggered about the pitch with an aura of dominance, only briefly dented by the boys from the seedier end of the thanon. The game settled into a series of skirmishes and forays from each team, the referee excelled at keeping the game flowing, realising this was a farang style conflict with no quarter asked or given.Defence looking strongest candidates for man of the match,Forrest from the shopping quarter vying with Parkin from the 'entertainment' district, until Chatree showing great perseverance and a small quantity of luck managed to feed Adam an almost open goal. The boys from the Go-Go never recovered and BHB managed to add another before halftime,Nat looping a header over the keeper from 18yards after a great delivery from Pants.Half time 2-0
Warbler started the 2nd half strongly and came close with one of there many freekicks, only a great save from Oat denying Malcolm the top corner.Against the run of play Breenie shows his qualities to tuck the ball between keeper and defender.Play continues and Robbo and Chatree have their own personal competition to see who can achieve the most comedic fallover,Robbo assisted by Willy Watts,Chatree all his own work.Malcolm sends a thru-ball to Num,who takes advantage of no one being near him (see new Thai offside rule) to coolly run in on goal and slot home.Warbler finish the half as they started, forcing corners,Malcolm showing great individual skill, bicycle kicks one into the far corner. It's not enough the whistle blows almost immediately after the restart and the Brazilians are handed the keys to Sukhumvit.
Scorers:(BHB) Adam, Nat, Dave Breen - (WFC) Num, Malcolm
In this fiercely contested match it was great to see no tempers lost, and the game played to such a high standard. There can be no man of the match picked as every player excelled from both teams.

GAS 1 - BHB 4
( Sunday 20th May,Patana back pitch,16.45 k.o. )
In a desperate bid to get the Yellow to the game ontime the total tart Big Willy told of a 4:30 start and then himself arrived 5 minutes after the arranged 5pm kick off.*I actually arrived at 16.50 only to find the 17.00 k.o. game had already started.- Will* Straight from the whistle it was obvious that the boys from the Bullshead were hungry for victory and were at the German's like terriers. Under substained Brazilian pressure the GAS conceded a series of corners, one delivery from the right, cannoning off a German chest at the near post and into the net.The restart saw the Germans gain more of a foothold in the opposition half and mount some attacks on the BHB,but nowt could get past the Yellows own Aryan contender Forrest Haynes.A moment of German attack is turned into a counterstrike, the ball swept out to Breenie on the left wing, who muscles past his man and feeds the ball diagonally to Smarty Pants, who has exploded like a missile from the silo of his penalty area to the opposite box, who in turn slams an unstoppable right foot drive into the bottom corner.Torrential rain descends and the field quickly becomes a muddy battlefield, mined with scything tackles and high studs. The referee closes the half not long after.
Half Time 0 - 2
The second half is a farce the field cannot support a pass nor a magical run.The GAS adapt quicker and assault the Yellow end, their campaign to get an equaliser, repulsed by Adam very much in the thick of the fray, and Nat,Kempos,Forrest and Young Boy play like a dirty dozen, mud soaked they do the work of twelve getting the ball to Pants,Junior and Tam who desperately try to find the prisoners of water, Breenie and Oat.A skirmish in the midfield renders the participants of each side to ten,Pants, frustrated by his counterparts attentions, grabs the offender, the lad bites the hand that er holds him, which becomes the hand that punches him.The referee absolutely right dismisses the pair.Again the Germans adapt more quickly. They are relentless and get a penalty,as Nat brings his man down in the box. Forrest gets his first ever yellow card for foul and abusive language, conduct unbecoming an officer and a gentleman, violent behaviour and bringing the game into disrepute.Despite a barrage of lawyers trying to convince the referee of his virginal purity, the card sticks as another milestone achieved in his personal footballing career.Up steps the appointed kicker, the athletic BeerSinga(up from Rayong for the game)springs but the penalty is superbly placed and cannot be denied.BigWilly replaces Junior and fortifies the midfield. From this encampment Sit manages to get behind the German lines and after much hacking, slashing and splashing gets the ball into the net.Chatree back on again, allies himself with BigWilly and forces a corner. BigWilly takes it himself, sending a highly explosive, curling drive into the six yard box.The GAS keeper mistimes his punch, (see weather conditions) and the ball is smuggled across the line.*In other words it was going straight in from the corner anyway so I'm having it.- Will*Dave Breen makes history by recieving a three card flash, yellow, yellow red,off you go.What he did obviously not deserving a red but more serious than a yellow??!!??There is no time for the Germans to capitalise on the man advantage, within minutes the final blast of the ref's whistle sounds and its handshakes all round and off to the beer tents. But have the Yellow done enough the GAS only need 3 wins from 3 games and a clear 13 goals to snatch the championship spot.Never write off the Germans.
The Bullshead Brazilians would also like to take this opportunity to thank all their supporters throughout this truly magnificent season, those that come every week and those guest appearances by holidaymakers.
Scorers:BHB - o.g.,Sit,Nick Smart,Will. GAS - Joerg.
Man of the Match: Adam

With BHB all played up,forty points from 18,goal difference of plus 30 it was still in the hands of the German All Stars.Somewhat improbably, they would need to win all three of their remaining games and inprove their goal difference by twelve goals. As it turned out they fell at the first hurdle : the following Wednesday evening they were done 3-1 by Unocal. The Bulls Head Brazilians are Champions - and with a new Casual League record of an unbeaten League season.>
